You might say this company offers an alternative path to major label success. Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) is a leading distributor of physical and digital music, offering sales, marketing, and fulfillment services primarily for independent record labels. With connections to major retail chains, such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart, ADA helps such labels as Epitaph, Matador Records, and Sub Pop get CDs into retail spaces they might not otherwise have access to. It also provides manufacturing, warehousing and inventory management services. ADA typically generates revenue through service fees. It was founded in 1993 by Warner Music Group (WMG), which owns about 95% of the business. Sub Pop owns the rest.
