Vulcan was the lame, ugly god of fire and the forge, the patron of smiths and weavers. Vulcan Electric is similarly associated with high temperatures, but its product catalog is neither lame nor unattractive. The company makes heaters, temperature sensors (including thermocouples and thermistors), and thermostat controls. It serves a variety of industries, such as aerospace, medicine, metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and telecommunications. In 2003 the company acquired General Measurement, a supplier of precision temperature sensors, and in 2006 it bought Flex Technology, a maker of flexible circuits. Vulcan Electric was established in 1927. The company was purchased in 1983 by the Quick family.
