Providing optimal service, Optimus is one leg of Portugal's cellular phone triumvirate. is One of only three mobile phone carriers in the nation (Portugal Telecom and Vodafone Group are the other two), Optimus Telecomunicações launched its service in 1998 and boasts a service area that reaches more than 95% of the country's residents. Services are sold under the Optimus and Kanguru brands. Sonaecom, a subsidiary of Portuguese conglomerate Sonae Group, owns nearly half of Optimus. France Télécom, through its Orange subsidiary, holds an approximately 20% stake.
