The second-largest telecommunications operator in Italy (behind Telecom Italia), Albacom offers voice, data, and Internet services to both corporate and public entity customers. Albacom has more than 240,000 clients, including the University of Bologna and the Italian Stock Exchange. The company has been bought out by BT Group, so you'll see the company sometimes referred to as BT Albacom. The company started out in 1995 as a joint venture between British Telecom (now known as BT Group) and Banca Nazionale Del Lavoro; Eni and Mediaset became shareholders later. BT Group owned about a quarter of Albacom until it acquired the rest in 2005 for about $115 million. Albacom is now part of BT Global Services.
