Vodafone Essar is a leading provider of wireless telecommunications services in India. The company serves about 35 million subscribers located in every major region of the country. In addition to standard and prepaid wireless subscriptions, Vodafone Essar offers such services as text messaging and the wireless distribution of such content, as music and news. It also caters to corporate customers with wireless email and other services. The company is controlled by UK-based wireless heavyweight Vodafone Group, which owns more than two-thirds of the joint venture, while the remaining shares are owned by Indian conglomerate Essar Group.
