Cowles Publishing Company owns and operates The Spokesman-Review, a daily newspaper serving Spokane, Washington. Its other holdings include a handful of television stations affiliated with NBC serving audiences in three Washington markets, as well as a CBS affiliate in serving Santa Barbara, California. In addition, Cowles Publishing owns newsprint manufacturer Inland Empire Paper Company. The family-owned holding company also has interests in financial services, insurance, and real estate. William H. Cowles launched The Spokesman-Review in 1894.
