Picturehouse has found a home in a whole new market. Formed in 2005 when HBO Films and New Line Cinema bought the distribution arm of Newmarket Entertainment, the company is a distributor of independent films. Picturehouse movies consist of selected productions from its two parents and acquisitions on the film festival circuit. The company released its first film, Last Days, in 2005 when it announced its formation at the Cannes Film Festival. Its first major title was Robert Altman's 2006 release, A Prairie Home Companion. Bob Berney, a film executive who helped distribute My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Memento, among others, heads Picturehouse. The firm absorbed New Line's art film unit Fine Line Features.
