Aries was the Greek god of war, but Aries Maritime Transport sails in peace. The company's fleet of about a dozen vessels consists mainly of double-hulled product tankers designed to transport gasoline, jet fuel, heating oil, and edible oil. Its product tankers, which are chartered primarily on long-term contracts, have an overall capacity of more than 475,000 deadweight tons (DWT). Aries Maritime Transport also operates containerships. Grandunion Inc., an entity controlled by chairman Nicholas Fistes and deputy chairman and CEO Michail Zolotas, holds a controlling stake in Aries Maritime Transport.
