Panning for gold in the Klondike made for thirsty prospectors during the Alaskan gold rush. The beer that quenched palates then is still offered by Alaskan Brewing. Offering Alaskan Amber, whose recipe dates back to the 1881 gold rush, the firm added other beers, all made with local ingredients and glacier-fed water; its varieties include pales, stout, and porter, as well as seasonal winter and summer ales. It continues to innovate and in 2009 it introduced a new brew -- Alaskan White -- a spicy wheat ale made with coriander and orange peel. Founded in 1986, Alaskan Brewing's distribution area includes Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, as well as Phoenix, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, and Southern California.
