To Deerfield Capital (formerly Deerfield Triarc) its all about location. The real estate investment trust (REIT) invests in high-quality residential mortgage-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities, alternative investments, and leveraged finance instruments such as corporate mezzanine loans and bonds. It has some $8 billion of assets under management. In 2007 the REIT acquired its former parent Deerfield & Company from Triarc (now Wendy's/Arby's Group) and changed its name to Deerfield Capital. The deal streamlined its operations and brought in Deerfield Capital Management, which oversees more than $10 billion in investments for institutional clients.
