Actis Capital makes private equity investments in companies in emerging markets such as Africa, China, India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. It buys out, acquires stakes in, or provides financing to firms in the retail, oil and gas, mining and manufacturing, financial services, telecommunications, health care, and real estate sectors, among others. Portfolio holdings include interests in Banque Commerciale du Rwanda, Kenya-based Grain Bulk Handlers, India-based consumer goods concern Paras, Phoenix Lamps, and the National Stock Exchange of India. Actis Capital owns stakes in more than 40 companies and has about $3.5 billion in funds under management on behalf of more than 70 institutional investors.
