SPAR (UK) Limited oversees more than 2,600 independently-owned convenience stores under the SPAR banner throughout Great Britain and Northern Ireland. SPAR has restructured its retail operations to maintain its strong position in the UK's rapidly consolidating convenience store market, where supermarket operators Tesco and J Sainsbury have been aggressively expanding their convenience store businesses through acquisitions. The retailer sells some 900 SPAR-brand fresh and packaged grocery products in its shops. Founded in Great Britain in 1957, SPAR (UK) is part of a global voluntary organization of retailers that operate some 13,600 stores in 30-plus countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America.
