Founded in 2004 by a group of former executives from 3i Group, Exponent Private Equity raised £400 million from institutional investors (mainly pension funds and other long-term investors) in the US and Europe for its first fund. The firm targets middle-market companies in the UK, focusing on the media, financial services, health care, and business services sectors. Its investment strategy includes taking an active role in target companies' management and operations. Exponent's holdings include online publishing company Magicalia, rail ticket seller Trainline, handbag chain Radley, and recruitment firm GTI Group. It bought British bed retailer Dreams in 2008.
