Astellas Pharma Europe is one of the stars in Japanese drug firm Astellas' constellation. (Astellas was formed from a merger between Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical and Fujisawa Pharmaceutical in 2005.) Former Yamanouchi Pharma Ltd. operations in Surrey moved and merged with operations outside London later in 2005, forming Astellas Pharma Europe, which accounts for about a quarter of its parent's sales. The company sells prescription pharmaceuticals for a variety of ailments, specializing in dermatology, urology, anti-infectives, and transplantation needs. In addition to its presence in England, the division includes manufacturing plants, an R&D facility, and distribution affiliates in nearly 20 countries.
