It was acquired by NBTY in 1997. The retailer conducts extensive staff-training programs to ensure that products are used safely and prudently. Holland & Barrett operates about 550 stores throughout the UK and Ireland. The company also sells its products online and also provides extensive health and lifestyle information on its Web site through a partnership with Healthnotes, an aggregator of health information from medical journals. NBTY has been converting some of its GNC (UK) stores to Holland & Barrett shops.
