Phyworks' chips say "Fie!" to slow telecommunication links. The company offers serializer/deserializer devices and other microchips used in fiber-optic modules for high-speed LAN, SAN, and WAN equipment. The fabless semiconductor company was founded in 2001 by industry veterans; it outsources production to silicon foundries (contract semiconductor manufacturers), including Taiwan Semiconductor and Jazz Semiconductor. Phyworks touts its chips as being less expensive and less power-hungry than typical devices of the same type. Phyworks' investors include Advent Venture Partners, Atlas Venture, and Prelude Ventures.
