MicroEmissive Displays (MED) clearly had a lightbulb moment. The company develops light-emitting diode microdisplay technology used in mobile TV and video. Its eyescreen products combine color video images with low-power consumption that can be incorporated into digital still cameras and night vision systems. The technology may also be applied to iPods and handheld electronic games. The company outsources production to Taiwan-based chip foundry UMC. Customers can be found in the US, Asia, and Europe. MED was founded by former CTO Jeff Wright and current executive Ian Underwood in 1999 as a spinout from Napier and Edinburgh Universities. Running low on cash, the firm went into administration in late 2008.
