Linktone offers wireless content and applications through two of China's leading wireless operators, China Mobile and China Unicom. Linktone has more than 6 million active users of its short messaging services (SMS). It also offers ring tones, screen savers, and content such as entertainment news and games. Director Derek Sulger and former executive Patrick Benzie founded the company in 1999 as a division of Intrinsic China Technology. It was spun off in 2001 as Intrinsic Technology before changing its name to Linktone. Registered in the Cayman Islands, it operates in China through affiliates controlled by Chinese shareholders.
