Railroad operator Norfolk Southern Railway is the main subsidiary of Norfolk Southern Corp. Norfolk Southern Railway's network of tracks includes about 21,000 route miles in 22 states in the eastern US and in Ontario, Canada. Its system is made up of more than 16,000 route miles owned by Norfolk Southern and about 5,000 route miles of trackage rights, which allow the company to use tracks owned by other railroads.
