Acadia Insurance was made to handle a crisis. Literally. The company was founded in 1992 in response to the Maine Workers' Compensation crisis when a lack of insurers in the region almost caused the collapse of the workers' comp system there. Since then Acadia Insurance has established offices more than 600 cities in the Northeast. Acadia specializes in commercial insurance lines for small-to-medium businesses in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont. Acadia, which is a subsidiary of property/casualty giant W.R. Berkley, sells its products through local independent agents.
