You might say this company is trying to be the best of the wurst. Alexander & Hornung is a popular sausage maker that has been serving the Detroit area since 1945. The company makes a variety of bratwursts, knockwursts, and hot dogs, as well as Polish sausages, bologna, and salami. It also makes bacon, ham, and deli meats. In addition it owns Brookside Foods (deli meats), Bosell Foods (salads), and Gateway Specialty Foods (meat brokerage). Alexander & Hornung distributes its products to retail grocers and deli stores throughout the US; it also operates a retail meat store in Detroit. The family-owned business was started by butchers Erich and Willie Alexander and sausage maker Otto Hornung.
