R. L. Jordan Oil Company takes gas from hot spots and sells it at Hot Spots. It operates a chain of some 50-plus Hot Spot convenience store/gas stations and almost 20 fast food restaurants (Hardee's and Subway), in the Carolinas. The family-owned and -operated company was founded by its namesake and former chairman in 1950, the late R. L. Jordan. The Jordan family also owns a properties firm (Jordan Properties) that operates several hotels and properties in North Carolina.
