KCS Energy has found new energy as it has bounced back from the financial difficulties it had earlier in the decade. The oil and gas exploration and production independent has refocused its operations on its core properties in the Midcontinent and Gulf Coast regions, where it owns reserves of 452 billion cu. ft. of gas equivalent. The company, which also owns stakes in producing properties in California, Michigan, Wyoming, and the Gulf of Mexico is focusing on expanding its natural gas reserves. In 2006 KCS Energy agreed to be acquired by rival Petrohawk Energy.
