Cree has its name in lights. Its blue, green, and near-ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (LEDs) -- made from silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) -- are used in products such as dashboard lights, architectural light fixtures, market tickers, and video screens, including the giant screen in New York City's Times Square. Cree also sells SiC wafers, which work better at higher temperatures and voltages than standard silicon devices, and SiC and GaN materials. Its power and radio-frequency (RF) products include Schottky diodes and transistors. Leading customers include Seoul Semiconductor, Arrow Electronics, and Sumitomo. Cree sells products globally, but Asia accounts for more than two-thirds of sales.
