First things first: Don't confuse this First Bancorp with Virginia's First Bancorp or First BanCorp in Puerto Rico. This one is the holding company for First Bank, which operates about 100 branch locations in east-central North Carolina, east South Carolina, and western Virginia (where it operates under the name First Bank of Virginia). In addition to offering standard commercial banking services such as deposit accounts and lending, the bank offers investment products and discount brokerage services. Another subsidiary, First Bank Insurance Services, offers property/casualty products. First Bank focuses its lending on mortgages, which account for more than half of its loan portfolio.
