Regions Financial ain't just whistling Dixie anymore. The holding company for Regions Bank, which sprouted in the South, has grown by acquiring other financial services firms over the years. Regions has some 1,900 branches in 16 states, roughly stretching from the Mississippi River Valley in the US heartland to the Southeast and Texas. It also owns Memphis-based investment bank and brokerage Morgan Keegan, which has more than 300 offices on its parent's turf, plus New York and Massachusetts. In addition to traditional banking, Regions offers a variety of other services, including mortgage banking (Regions Mortgage), equipment financing, and life, health, and property/casualty insurance (Regions Insurance).
