Comstock Resources' stock in trade is producing natural gas and oil. The midsized independent oil and gas company has proved reserves of more than 1 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent (80% in the form of natural gas) on its properties in five major areas -- East Texas/North Louisiana, Mississippi, South Texas, Southeast Texas, and the Gulf of Mexico. Comstock Resources operates 504 of the 881 producing wells in which it holds an interest. The company has grown through the drill bit (by exploiting existing reserves) and through complementary acquisitions.
