Orbital Sciences would maintain that what goes up doesn't have to come down -- at least not for a long time. The company makes low-level earth orbit, planetary, and other satellites used for communications, remote sensing, and scientific purposes. Orbital Sciences also manufactures launch vehicles used to get satellites into orbit, as well as launch vehicles for suborbital rockets used to test missile defense systems. More down-to-earth operations include the design and manufacture of satellite-based transportation management systems, primarily for mass transit agencies. The US government and its contractors account for about 65% of the company's sales.
