Cognex machines see what mere mortals cannot. The company is one of the world's largest producers of systems that, linked to a video camera, serve as eyes where human vision is insufficient. Semiconductor, consumer goods, health care, and automotive companies, among others, use the company's machine vision systems to position and identify products, gauge sizes, and locate defects. Customers include manufacturers such as Ford Motor and Palomar Technologies. Cognex also offers consulting and educational services, as well as technical support for its products. Sales to customers located outside the US account for about 70% of sales.
