The American Jewish World Service (AJWS) helps poor people around the globe in areas such as health, nutrition, education, housing, and women's issues. It offers grants, technical assistance, advocacy, and emergency relief through hundreds of organizations in more than 35 developing nations worldwide. Projects include anti-sexual exploitation clinics, building orphanages, helping street children, entrepreneur programs for women, HIV/AIDS education and intervention, and sustainable agriculture programs. AJWS was founded in 1985 to help American Jews do tzedakah, or good deeds, which is part of a Jewish obligation to help the world.
