Feeling like one of the family is what Beth Abraham Family of Health Services wants for each of its patients. Through its facilities and programs, the not-for-profit organization serves the elderly, the significantly disabled, and the chronically ill. Its system provides a range of adult day care, home health, nursing home, and long-term care services through about 20 locations, mostly in New York City. Dr. Oliver Sacks' book Awakenings (later a movie) was based on his work with Beth Abraham patients. Beth Abraham is an affiliate of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function, which treats patients with music therapy to improve their neurological functioning, and provides training to practitioners.
