Let the good times (and the barrels) roll. Shortly after Prohibition's end, Abram Bowman decided to boost profits from his corn field harvest by making bourbon (which is, for those who don't know, whiskey made from corn). Thus in 1935 the A. Smith Bowman Distillery was born. Today, the spirits maker produces a variety of small-batch libations -- vodka, scotch, tequila, rum, gin, and Canadian whiskey -- all under its namesake Bowman's brand name, as well as bourbon under the Virginia Gentleman name. Virginia-based, A. Smith Bowman is owned by New Orleans spirits maker Sazerac Company.
