It's strange to think that any company "invented" a fruit, but Armstrong Garden Centers has just done that. Over the company's history (it was founded in 1889), it has developed the boysenberry along with varieties of peaches, oranges, roses, and the patented Hotbiscus hibiscus. In addition to its innovative 100-acre nursery facilities, the company has about three dozen retail garden centers throughout Southern California and two locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. The centers carry shrubs, flowering plants, fruit trees, vegetables, and some 1,000 varieties of roses along with the usual assortment of dirt, statuary, planters, and garden tools. Company employees own 100% of Armstrong Garden Center.
