B&B Technologies' propulsion system is taking off. After years of research, the manufacturer developed a magnetic suspension propulsion system (known as DAMPS) for use in work and athletic boots and shoes. Its Smart Boots line is marketed to Marines and other military personnel. DAMPS technology, which B&B plans to market in full lines of men's and women's shoes, delivers an almost 70% increase in shock mitigation compared to regular shoes. Opposing super magnets in the heel counter normal shock usually felt while walking. In 2007 the company signed a production agreement for Berkshire Hathaway-owned Cove Shoe to produce DAMPS footwear for military and civilian use. B&B was formed in 1988 by CEO Jeff Brown.
