If a sandwich bag could communicate, would it warn us when food goes bad? Toxin Alert thinks so. The company develops diagnostic tests for food freshness and safety. Its lead product, Toxin Guard, is a system for detecting pathogens by placing antibody-based tests on polymer packing films -- essentially a plastic wrap that detects contaminants in food. Toxin Alert is developing this technology into a commercialized food-safety product and planning numerous other potential applications in other fields. President and CEO William Bodenhamer founded the company in 1998.
