Which came first? The chimeric chicken or the transgenic egg? TranXenoGen, which has been developing therapeutic proteins derived from transgenic chicken egg albumin, might be able to answer that question for you. The company hopes to develop its technology such that it can reproduce needed proteins from the eggs of modified chickens. The proteins could be used to create drugs to treat cancer and diabetes. Funding has been an issue for TranXenoGen, and instead of further developing its technology, it is slashing its staff and selling its assets. The company is focusing on licensing or leveraging its product portfolio to a development partner.
