The privately-owned company invests in, develops, renovates, and manages residential and commercial real estate in the Mid-Atlantic. Its portfolio includes more than 70 apartment communities (about 25,000 individual units) and six office buildings in Maryland and Virginia. It specializes in renovating historic properties, several of which are located in downtown Baltimore. The company also offers discounts for students and military families, and provides temporary corporate suites for partner employers. Its Southern Management University division offers employee training. CEO David Hillman founded Southern Management in 1965.
