Caveat emptor! To aid in your vigilance, there's C.A.R.S. Protection Plus. The company sells extended warranties on used cars through registered auto dealers. C.A.R.S. Protection Plus was hailed as one of Entrepreneur magazine's top 100 fast-growing small businesses in 2003, but ran into legal trouble in 2004 when the state attorney general's office in Pennsylvania filed suit against it for failing to honor warranties and for misrepresenting important terms of its warranty products. Then, in late 2005, a Michigan judge ruled that C.A.R.S. Protection Plus violated that state's Consumer Protection Act; an appeals court upheld the decision in 2007.
