Movie studios cannot live on big, extravagant pictures alone. Warner Independent Productions (WIP) is the specialty film label of Warner Bros. Pictures. The unit was created to produce and acquire smaller-budgeted films than those of its parent studio. It releases about 10 films a year, each with a budget of $20 million or less. Productions have included Before Sunset, The Painted Veil, For Your Consideration, and the popular documentary March of the Penguins. WIP was founded in 2003 by former president Mark Gill.
