Arabian American Development may dream of making a fortune exploring for precious minerals in Saudi Arabia, but it generates most of its bread-and-butter income as an independent refiner in Texas. Through US subsidiary American Shield Refining, it operates a specialty petrochemical product refinery that primarily produces high purity solvents used in the plastics and foam industries. Subsidiary Gulf State Pipe Line owns and operates three pipelines. In addition, Arabian American holds a mining lease (for copper, gold, silver, and zinc) in southwestern Saudi Arabia's Al Masane area and has mining claims in Nevada. Arabian American Development was formed in 1967.
