The hunt for petroleum drives the Hunt family, which traces its oil interests back to legendary wildcatter H.L. Hunt. It controls Petro-Hunt, L.L.C. and Petro-Hunt International, L.L.C. (together known as the Petro-Hunt Group, one of the world's largest privately held independent energy concerns). Petro-Hunt, L.L.C. focuses on oil and gas exploration and production in the US. Petro-Hunt's other activities include gas processing (through Pursue Energy), pipeline transportation and refining. The company also controls Placid Refining Company, which operates a state-of-the-art 57,000 barrels-of-oil-per-day refinery in Louisiana. In 2012 it agreed to sell Williston Basin assets to Halcón Resources for $1.5 billion.
