Rx marks the spot for Lawton's Drug Stores. The company operates about 75 pharmacies throughout Atlantic Canada. More than half of the company's stores are in Nova Scotia, but it also has outlets in three other provinces, including about two dozen stores in Newfoundland. Lawton's stores average 9,000 square feet and carry a full line of over-the-counter and prescription drugs, baby products, gifts and greeting cards, health and beauty items, and a limited selection of general merchandise. In addition to stand-alone stores, Lawton's Drug operates outlets inside its parent company's Sobeys supermarkets. Founded in 1886, the drug store chain was acquired by Sobeys, a subsidiary of Empire Company, in 1996.
