Reflecting the shift in its exploration focus from Appalachia to the Gulf Coast, in 2005 Blue Ridge Energy renamed itself Bayou City Exploration. An affiliate of the Blue Ridge Group, the company is engaged in oil and gas exploration primarily in Texas and Louisiana. Bayou City Exploration conducts its activities through partnerships and the acquisition of direct stakes in oil and gas properties, and in exploratory and development wells. The company has four projects in Aransas, Willacy, and Kenedy counties in coastal and south Texas, with estimated project reserves totalling 54.5 billion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent. The Blue Ridge Group owns 14% of Bayou City Exploration.
