Sparks Health System brings good health to western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. The non-profit health system operates Sparks Regional Medical Center, a 320-bed community-based hospital, along with a broad range of health care programs and diagnostic facilities. With Arkansas' oldest hospital (founded in 1887) as part of its operations, Sparks boasts an impressive lists of "firsts," including the state's first heart institute (Stanley E. Evans Heart Institute) and the state's first ultrasound equipment. However, an expensive renovation and economic woes have pinched the company. Sparks Health System has announced plans to sell its hospital to Georgia-based Jackson Healthcare.
