Sperry Marine can trace its roots back to the early 1800s, but the present company was actually formed when three marine brands -- Sperry Marine, Decca, and C. Plath -- were combined in 1997. A business unit of Northrop Grumman since 2001, Sperry Marine makes everything mariners -- ancient or otherwise -- need to navigate the seas. Its products include autopilots and steering controls, communications equipment, fish plotters, gyrocompasses, radars, navigation sensors and GPS systems, ship stabilizing systems, and voyage data recorders. Sperry Marine has engineering centers in New Malden, UK, and Hamburg, Germany; it also has more than 250 authorized service locations.
