Just as Dubai aims to rise among the ranks of the world's major cities, Emirates wants to take its place among the world's leading airlines. The carrier provides scheduled passenger and cargo services to more than 90 destinations in about 100 cities around the globe, including Houston and New York in the US. Emirates operates a fleet of more than 100 Boeing and Airbus jets and 10 cargo freighters. The airline is owned by the government of Dubai, one of seven city-states that makes up the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Emirates is part of the Emirates Group, which also includes airport management (Dnata) and business technology (Mercator).
