Akela Pharma, formerly LAB International, is looking to sniff out profits (eventually) with its inhaled pain meds. The drug development firm's lead product is Fentanyl Taifun, an inhaled formulation of cancer pain fighter fentanyl. The company's specialty drug firm PharmaForm provides contract drug development services. Akela is also working on a technology to make opioid pain drugs resistant to abuse. The firm also does research in areas not related to pain relief; it is developing an asthma drug and a growth hormone stimulator used in patients with kidney failure.
