Ceterus Networks is giving copper wire a new lease on life. The equipment maker offers gear that enables Ethernet transmission over existing copper and fiber networks. Its Universal Transport System (UTS) lets carriers offer Ethernet services, along with traditional phone service, without expensive infrastructure overhaul. UTS products can also be used by large, dispersed enterprises to connect multiple locations and by wireless carriers for cell tower backhaul. Founded in 2001, Ceterus has funding from ComVentures and Sevin Rosen Funds.
