Badger State Ethanol hopes to badger gasoline consumers into using its ethanol. The company manufactures fuel-grade ethanol (a performance-enhancing gasoline additive derived from processing corn into ethyl alcohol) at the rate of about 50 million gallons per year at its plant in Wisconsin. Its ethanol is marketed through distributor Murex; the firm has also opened a retail fuel station. Badger State Ethanol also sells 125,000 tons a year of distiller's grains (an animal feed supplement) and carbon dioxide, two by-products of ethanol production. The company was formed in 2000 and opened its ethanol plant in 2002.
