Sky Brasil Serviços provides direct broadcast satellite (DBS) TV services to more than 800,000 residents in Brazil. The company also offers digital video recorder (DVR) and pay-per-view services. Sky Brasil Serviços is majority owned by The DIRECTV Group. The company was once a joint venture among Rupert Murdoch's New York City-based News Corporation; Brazilian holding company Globo Comunicações e Participações (Globopar); and John Malone's Liberty Media International. In 2006 News Corp. and Liberty Media sold their stakes totalling 74% to DIRECTV which subsequently combined Sky Brasil with its own Brazilian operations (Galaxy Brasil). Globopar holds the remaining 26% of the company.
